Workshops For All Ages

No green thumb? No problem! Farmcity's Workshops aim to take the fear out of growing so you can finally get that herb garden you’ve always dreamt of. Sometimes we even invite guests speakers so we can all learn together.

DIY Organic Veggies

Take it from the most unlikely farmers, it is absolutely possible to grow your own organic veggies at home. We’ll share our tips, tricks and learnings in this interactive workshop; and we promise to keep it simple and jargon-free!

In this workshop, participants will learn how to create a composter, how to compost, and how to use the compost. At the end of the workshop, participants will take away their own composter, built from scratch during the workshop. You’ll even get to decorate it too!

In this workshop, you will learn to make your own scented candles at home, using only essential oils and natural inputs found on the farm.

Container farming is what we do best, especially since most of our plants are proudly container raised. We’ll show you how to build your own soil and grow your own veggies, herbs and flowers in containers. No garden, no problem!

Eeeeew… worms are gross! We thought so too, until we discovered they have no teeth; are perfect, mess-free pets that efficiently digest all of our kitchen waste and turns it into superb fertilizer for our gardens, potted plants included. We’ll teach you how to start your own vermi-composter using the most basic supplies.

Learn how to use companion planting and other secrets from nature to control pests in your garden. We’ll start from the basics, including how to identify a pest, how to make your own natural products, and how to apply them.

What is permaculture? Can I do that at home? We’ll show you how, with the help of a guest expert on the subject. As always, we promise to keep it simple and jargon-free!

Being a farmer is hardly like the idyllic life you’d see on Instagram, especially if you are an organic farmer determined to do good. It takes grit, resilience, a good measure of stubborness and definitely innovation. But the rewards far outweigh the hard work it takes to go up against the ‘big guys’. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we are happy to share our strategies and recommendations for operating farms in today's context. We also promise to create a network of support for the aspiring agripreneurs out there.

Interested to start your own Bee hive at home? We want many on the farm too! This workshop will equip you with all the basic knowledge to enable you to do just that. Since we would like to learn along with you, we will be inviting a guest expert to show us how to get started!

If you are what you eat, how do we eat ourselves to great health? What role does probiotics play in this? Can I do that on a budget?  Learn more from the guest nutritionist we’ve specially invited for this workshop.

Thinking of making your backyard smarter than your house? Learn how simple technology can help you manage a backyard garden even your grandma would be proud of!

Where Are We Located?

Our flagship farm is located in Beau Plan, Mauritius.

  1. At the round-about of Pamplemousses (from M2 highway), take exit called Bois Rouge.

  2. Drive pass the village and sugarcane fields for about 2km - until you reach a fork and an asphalted road on your left.

  3. Keep going pass the entrance of Centre Equestre. Turn left at crossroad.

  4. Turn right at the first dirt road.

Other Programs We Run

Farmcity offers guided tours and workshops to enable anyone to experience modern farming first hand. We offer a range of themes,  delivered on and off the farm, relating to the wider topic of agripreneurship and the future of food.

Can’t tell a cotomili from a parsley? Have dreams of a herb garden but you can’t even keep a cactus alive? Well we couldn’t either… not until we started Farmcity at least. The running joke among us is that we made all of the worst mistakes so others don’t have to. We share all of our learnings, tips and tricks through this series of interactive workshops. Great for all ages, no farming experience needed!

The #Cultivate program is a 1.5hour program specially developed for primary and secondary level students. In this workshop, we introduce participants to Farmcity's farming model and engage their inner entrepreneur with a fair trade simulation. The goal is to have students leave with a a greater awareness of their role as changemakers in the greater food system. School visits can be conducted in groups of 30 at a time, and a maximum of two groups per day.

Fancy a change of scenery? Our experiential programs take teams and managers on a learning journey out of the office and ‘back to the land’. Exposure to nature has been linked to better moods, higher job satisfaction, and more commitment to their employer. Speak with us today to tailor an activity that best suit your employee needs.

#MunchBunch is a  holiday program that takes place on a working farm. We introduce children to sustainable agriculture through storytelling, experimentation, observation and adventurous play.

Farmcity's Agripreneurship 101 is an afterschool program aimed at cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset among junior youths aged 10-15. Using the future of food as a premise, we invite students to explore, invent and innovate out-of-this-world solutions to some of the challenges around the future of food. They will learn to problem solve, prototype and pitch their ideas effectively, some of the essential skills required for the economy of the future. Every Saturday morning, we take our visitors on a tour of Farmcity, sharing what we do, how we grow, and what we are all about. We never want income to be a barrier to learning more, so we conduct these tours on a “Pay-What-You-Wish basis. This means exactly that - pay what you wish at the end of the tour, if you feel you’ve learnt something during your visit.
